The Packers host the Chicago Bears Sunday, October 3 and are 2-0 going into the game, while the Bears are 0-2. The Bears' opening drive is stopped on first and goal at the 8-yard line when QB Billy Wade is hit by Kostelnik and fumbles. Henry Jordan recovers for Green Bay, and the rest of the first half is all Packers. Hornung's 1-yd TD run with 20 seconds left in the first quarter gives the Packers a 7-0 lead. On Wade's first play on the next series, Caffey picks off a pass and returns it 34 yards for a TD, making the score 14-0. Before the half, the Packers score again on Bob Long's 48-yard TD pass reception, making it 20-0. For the third quarter, Rudy Bukich replaces Wade at QB for Chicago and moves the Bears, however a costly penalty nullifies a Bukich to Johnny Morris TD pass and the Bears don't get their first score until the waning moments of the period. As the game progresses, Bukich begins to use rookie Gale Sayers more and more, and Sayers' 6-yard TD run to the outside makes the score 23-7 after three quarters. The final score of the game comes with 40 seconds left, as Bukich tosses to Sayers at the Bear 35 and Gale sprints down the sideline on a 65-yard TD run to end the game, which the Packers win, 23-14. Many other Bears of the day are shown throughout the game, such as Jon Arnett, Ronnie Bull, Andy Livingston, Joe Marconi, Mike Ditka, Dick Gordon, Bobby Joe Green, rookie Dick Butkus, Mike Reilly, Rosey Taylor, Dave Whitsell, Earl Leggett, Bob Kilcullen, Doug Atkins and of course, Head Coach George Halas. A week later, the Packers host the 49'ers. One of the Packer stars of this game is Don Chandler, who sets up the Packers first TD with a 27-yard run on a fake punt, is two for two on FG attempts, and goes into the record books with a tremendous 90-yard punt late in the game! Facing 2nd and 5 on the San Francisco 23, Starr tosses a TD pass to Bob Long for a 7-0 lead with 1:10 left in the first quarter. After a penalty sets up the 49'ers on the Packer 1-yard line, Brodie passes to Monte Stickles on 4th down, and the game is tied 7-7. Chandler's two FG's before intermission make the score 13-7 at halftime. In the third quarter the Packers extend their lead to 20-7 when Starr connects with TE Marv Flemming on 3rd and 6 at the SF nine. The Niners close to 20-10 on Tommy Davis' 39-yard FG in the 4th quarter, but the Packers bounce back with another TD almost immediately. Halfback Tom Moore runs back a kickoff 52 yards then Jim Taylor rips off a 35-yard gain to the 49'er 11. On third and one at the 2-yard line, Hornung bowls over for the TD to make it 27-10. Late in the game, with the Packers stalled 4th and 17 at their own 10-yard line, Chandler stuns the crowd with his astounding 90-yard kick! Throughout the game, many other 49'er players are shown, such as John David Crow, Gary Lewis, rookie Ken Willard, Bernie Casey, Kay McFarland, Dave Parks, Dave Wilcox, Kermit Alexander, Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Mertens.
