1950 MODERNA TRUTONE BOOMERANG BAKELITE TUBE RADIO, MODEL D2018, SUPERB EXAMPLE!

Description: In this listing we are offering an exceptional example of a visually powerful mid-century modern plastic bakelite tube type radio. This is a Moderna Trutone Boomerang Style model D-2018 which dates circa 1950. This example is (as issued) in cream colored plastic. The case measures 15 inches long by 8 1/2 inches tall by 8 7/8 inches deep plus an additional 3/4 inch deep when the knobs are counted. The weight is approximately 8 pounds. This example, which is all original, is a recent Pennsylvania estate find. The case is made of black plastic which is, as issued, with a cream color over the black. We believe that the plastic is of the bakelite type. But, we will leave that judgement up to bakelite experts to determine. We have NOT TESTED the radio to see if it works as we believe that any antique radio should be checked by a professional before plugging it in. So, the radio is being offered as NOT WORKING. The case has some tiny insignificant surface wear points here & there. There is one minor tiny nick off of the plastic which measures 5/16 inch by 1/4 inch & is 1/8 inch (or less) deep. This nick is off of the top area of the curve 1 1/2 inches in from the back edge. Otherwise, there are no other nicks, chips, cracks, or repairs of any kind to the case. The radio retains the original tan colored plastic knobs with gold colored top inserts. The gold area has toned somewhat from age. The knob on left moves smoothly & clicks as expected for use if intending to turn on. The knob on right moves indicator arrow smoothly & correctly as intended. The original glass station dial is in fresh bright condition & shows no wear. The "Trutone" name plaque has toned from age. The grill cloth has the original tan color intact with absolutely no fading. There are 29 lines of gold sparkle (as issued) running at an angle & parallel to each other which add a lot of drama & a great visual effect to the grill cloth. The all original grill cloth which is in excellent condition shows only the slightest signs of age & extremely minor wear. Also included is the original hard fiber back board which is in excellent tight & stiff condition. There is lots of printed info (as issued) on the back board. The original cord & the original bakelite plug are present & soundly attached. It is possible, but we are not certain, that the plug would have originally had a circular bit of cardboard between the prongs & the bakelite. If so, this small bit of cardboard is missing. The radio is being properly held together by the all original screws. A truly exceptional example of this marvelous radio. It is unlikely that you would ever be able to find a better condition example of this scarce & dramatically designed mid-century modern boomerang style radio.
