Description: Here is an actual 6X6 (six holes in each quadrant at the top and six holes around the ear hole) leather helmet that I have replicated to look like the Packers helmets in 1937, 1938 and the 1939 Championship season. The helmet is authentic from that period, but the treatment is with about 14 thin layers of specially blended leather paints to replicate the caramel color of the Packers helmets of that time. While an authentic helmet from the era, it is not an actually game worn Packers helmet. I have no provenance for it. This closely matches the helmets pictures in the December 1939 Life Magazine article about the team as well as the profile headshot of Clarke Hinkle wearing the 6X6. These are very rare helmets from the late 1930s and 1940s. To find one that has the chin strap in tact and working is even rarer. This is the first and only one of these that I have found and worked on. A real Packers game worn helmet from this era would most likely sell from $8,000 and up. The right collector can display this matching homage for a fraction. Perfect for a helmet timeline, by itself or next to the photo of Clarke and/or the Life Magazine article. Again, this is one of one and I don’t have another.
