Description: This is a great handwritten log book from 1887-1900. I read through it and it seems to be from a general store. I got it from an estate sale in Cedarville, Ohio but there are no identifying names inside. It is a hard bound book that measures 7.5x9.75". The pages are numbered so I will refer to them. The maroon leather at the corners and spine is quite worn. There is quite a bit of dirt and wear on the cover and the spine has ripped. Both sides of the cover are no longer attached but are still with the book. The pages smell old because they are old! There are age spots/dirty spots/ink spots inside and the pages show tanning due to age. There are some bent and folded corners along with chipping of the paper. There is writing inside the front and back covers. Page 1 is dated 1887 and says it is invoice of stock. The owner spelled brought 'brot' throughout and many other words are misspelled. Inventory continues through page 17. Page 18 is blank and 19-22 are cut out (pictured). Pages 23-25 are blank. Page 26 starts with invoice of stock and it looks like hardware items, household items, clothing, etc. They sell coffee, tarred rope, lanterns, lard, cigaretts [sic], arithmetic books, overalls...everything! Some brand names are listed, like Ivory Castile Soaps. This inventory continues through page 43. Pages 44-45 are blank. Page 46 startss invoice of stock December 1, 1890. This continues through page 66. Pages 67-69 are blank. Page 70 begins with inventory/stock again and ends on page 81. Page 82 is blank and there are math computations of sales on page 83. There are several different handwritings throughout, some more legible than others. Page 84 says August 30, 1900 Invoice of Stock on Hand and looks like a child's handwriting. Page 85 is blank. The child's handwriting begins again on page 86 and continues through page 90. Page 91 is blank. Pages 92-98 continue with inventory. Pages 99-132 are blank. Pages 133-134 are torn out. Pages 136-138 have writing on them but are torn (pictured). Pages 139-141 are missing. Page 143 is loose from the rest of the book. It is labelled Patent Medicines inventory from November 28, 1889. The backside of this page is blank. An interesting look into the past. A true survivor! FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING with tracking IN THE US. Ships from my non-smoking home in the US.
