Description: This now almost impossible to find bound volume contains two issues of the Quarterly Review for February and for May, 1810. Reprinted in England at this date for Ezra Sargeant in New York, First American Edition. 538 pages (although the last page only is misprinted "438"). These important issues include Robert Southey (who would become England's Poet Laureate in 1813) on new works (4 biographies) related to Admiral Horatio Nelson. It is now recognized as an outstanding example of fine English prose. Also found here is Southey's review of Vason's "Authentic Narrative of Four Years' Residence at Tongataboo, one of the Friendly Islands, in the South Sea"; a contemporary notice of David Ricardo's first separate publication, "The High Price of Bullion?"; and, several contributions on travel and exploration by John Barrow including "Selection from the Supplementary Statutes of the Penal Code of China" which opens with "This is one of the first books which had ever been translated immediately from the Chinese character into the English language." Also, Barrow reviews a French translation of his "Voyage to Cochin China," with several reviews by Sir Walter Scott: "Fatal Revenge: or the Family of Montorio: a Romance", Evans' "Old Ballads", Aikin's "Essays on Song Writing", and Evans' "Vocal Poetry." The reviews of Holford's "Wallace: or, the Flight of Falkirk. A Metrical Romance" and "Pursuits of Agriculture, a Satirical Poem, in Three Cantos" are also attributed to Scott. Scott's "The Lady of the Lake" is also reviewed here by George Ellis. This is a good only volume that is bound in 1/2 red leather with marbled boards. The boards and spine are worn and chipped and rubbed. The binding is tight and the text is very clean, printed on nice rag paper. See photos #4-5-6-7 for complete contents of these issues.
